Buying Older Records- Guides, Interviews, References
Buying older records can be challenging, even for the well-informed collector. This will serve as an index collecting links to various articles on the site about buying older records, including guides, interviews and references. In addition to identifying noteworthy used and collectible records on the site at large, TheVinylPress has published buying guides to used records (including basics on grading, decoding deadwax inscriptions and methodologies for further research of specific pressings), links to reference materials, suggested reference books and interviews with leading dealers and collectors (and will continue to do so). The focus of this site is mainly on music, and specifically, on older vinyl pressings as well as identifying desirable pressings-largely based on sonics, rather than collectability, per se. But, some of these records have become expensive. Where bargains are to be had, I try to identify them. But, because my musical taste may not be yours, I’m also providing readers with the tools and resources to do some of this research themselves.
To make it easier for the reader, all articles on these topics will be indexed here. For label-specific reference materials, including information concerning pressing plants associated with particular label releases, see the separate indices for specific labels, e.g. Vertigo Swirl, Island Pink Label, etc. As more material is published on the site relating to these topics, this index will be supplemented.
